Machine Robo • 600 Series (マシンロボ 600シリーズ)
The Machine Robo 600 Series (マシンロボ 600シリーズ) is the first range of Machine Robo transforming robots, launched by Popy in February 1982 after development started in 1980. The small robots turn into vehicles and other machines, and despite a low price — the 600 in the name refers to their original 600-yen price — they made wide use of die-cast metal, plating, clear parts and rubber tyres. Early releases carried Popy branding; after Bandai absorbed Popy in 1983 the packaging moved to full Bandai branding. Abroad, Tonka sold the toys as GoBots from 1983, and Bandai sold them in Europe as Robo Machine.
