Chogokin • Deluxe Series (デラックス超合金)

Deluxe Chogokin (デラックス超合金, written ‘DX超合金’) is the large-format branch of Popy’s die-cast Chogokin robots, created when robot anime moved to transforming and combining mechanisms; it is distinct from the modern DX Chogokin Macross line launched in 2008. The first was the Deluxe Brave Raideen (GA-09) in 1975, and the ‘DX’ label was only added partway through; these toys kept their GA and GB catalogue numbers. Daitetsujin 17 sold 1.66 million units, and from Combattler V the toys introduced several machines combining into one robot. After Popy merged into Bandai in 1983, the Chogokin name remained on Bandai’s anime and tokusatsu robots, and DX Chogokin continued, notably for Super Sentai robots, until Choujin Sentai Jetman.
