Marvel Secret Wars

Marvel Secret Wars

Mattel’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars line of action figures, vehicles and accessories, sold from 1984 to 1985. It was Mattel’s answer to DC Comics’ 1984 deal with Kenner for the Super Powers Collection, and Mattel’s involvement shaped Marvel’s Secret Wars comic crossover, whose title came from Mattel’s focus groups. The 4½-inch (110 mm) figures each came with a large plastic Secret Shield holding a lenticular image; the first series had eight figures: Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Wolverine against Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, Kang and Magneto. Vehicles came with extra lenticular inserts for the shields, the playsets were the Freedom Fighter and the Tower of Doom, and a last series of figures was sold only outside North America.
