Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is a fighting game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, launched by Midway in arcades in 1992. Known for its digitised actors, its brutal Fatalities and its martial-arts mythology, it has continued through more than a dozen games and been adapted into films, animated series, comics and toys.
Every generation, the sorcerer Shang Tsung and the emperor Shao Kahn of Outworld hold the Mortal Kombat tournament: if Outworld's champions win ten times in a row, they may invade Earthrealm. Guided by the thunder god Raiden, Earth's fighters, the Shaolin monk Liu Kang, the film star Johnny Cage and the soldier Sonya Blade, face Outworld's warriors while rival ninjas Scorpion and Sub-Zero pursue their own feud.
