Metal Armor Dragonar

Metal Armor Dragonar is a 48-episode real-robot mecha anime produced by Sunrise and directed by Takeyuki Kanda, broadcast on Nagoya TV/TV Asahi from 1987 to 1988. Its mecha were designed by Kunio Okawara, and the series was conceived as a renewal of the original Gundam formula.

In 2087, the lunar military state known as the United Lunar Empire Giganos declares independence and wages war on the Earth Alliance, bombarding Earth with its mass driver. The Alliance obtains three prototype Metal Armors, the Dragonars, developed with the help of Giganos defector Dr. Lang Plato. During a Giganos attack on the neutral colony Alucard, three teenage trainees, Kaine Wakaba, Tapp Oceano and Light Newman, stumble into the Dragonars and become registered as their only possible pilots. Pressed into military service, they fight Giganos forces in space and on Earth, clashing repeatedly with the ace Meio Plato, the 'Blue Hawk'. As the war turns in Earth's favour, internal power struggles within Giganos lead to a final battle in which Kaine and Meio join forces against the usurper Dorchenov.
