Heavy Metal L-Gaim

Heavy Metal L-Gaim is a 54-episode mecha anime created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Nippon Sunrise, broadcast on Nagoya TV/TV Asahi from 1984 to 1985. Its characters and mecha were designed by Mamoru Nagano, later creator of The Five Star Stories.

The Pentagona system, a five-planet world orbiting a double sun, is ruled by the immortal dictator Oldna Poseidal. On the planet Koam, young Daba Myroad sets out with his friend Kyao and the white Heavy Metal L-Gaim, searching for his missing adopted sister Quwasan Olibee. Joined by the former bandit Amu, the fairy Lillith and the defecting officer Leccee, Daba falls in with the rebels and reveals himself as the last heir of the Yaman clan destroyed by Poseidal. As power struggles tear through Poseidal's army and Daba upgrades to the L-Gaim Mk-II, the rebels uncover that the arms dealer Amandara Kamandara is the true Poseidal. In the final battle on Gastogal, Daba defeats Amandara and the treacherous Giwaza, then returns home to care for Olibee.
