Despicable Me

Despicable Me is an animated comedy franchise by Illumination for Universal Pictures, launched in 2010 by directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud. It includes four Despicable Me films (2010, 2013, 2017, 2024) and the spin-offs Minions (2015) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022); its small yellow Minions became the studio’s mascots.

Plot

Supervillain Gru plans to steal the Moon with the help of Dr. Nefario and an army of yellow Minions, and adopts three orphan girls, Margo, Edith and Agnes, as part of his scheme. Won over by the girls, he gives up villainy, joins the Anti-Villain League with his future wife Lucy Wilde and faces a string of eccentric villains. The Minions' own films go back to their search for an evil master, up to their meeting with the young Gru.
