Blue Comet SPT Layzner

Blue Comet SPT Layzner is a 38-episode science-fiction mecha anime produced by Nippon Sunrise and directed by Ryōsuke Takahashi, broadcast on Nippon Television from 1985 to 1986. Its story was concluded by the 1986 OVA “Act III: Kokuin 2000”.

In 1996, the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union has spread into space, with bases on the Moon and Mars. A group of teenagers from the UN-sponsored Cosmic Culture Club visiting Mars is caught in a battle between alien humanoid robots called SPTs, and only a handful survive. The lone victorious SPT, the Layzner, is piloted by Eiji Asuka, the son of a human astronaut and a woman of the alien Grados, who has defected to warn Earth that the Grados intend to invade it. Eiji and the surviving students struggle to reach Earth and convince the rival superpowers of the threat, but the Grados invasion succeeds. In the second part, set three years later, Earth lives under Grados occupation led by the ruthless commander Le Caine, and Eiji returns with the Layzner to fight alongside the resistance.
