Marusan™

Marusan is a Japanese toy maker founded in 1947 as Marusan Shōten by Ishida Haruyasu, his brother Ishida Minoru and brother-in-law Arai Yasuo. It made tin toys in the 1950s, became Japan’s first domestic plastic model maker with its “plamodel” trademark, and in 1966 pioneered soft vinyl monster figures from Ultra Q and Ultraman, fuelling the first kaiju boom. The company went bankrupt in 1968 and was refounded in 1969, while its sofubi business passed to Bullmark.
