Vol.04 • Porunga

The Scultures BIG Series are the resulting products from Banpresto’s Figure Colosseum Budokai Tenkaichi Contest. In the contest, Japans best sculptors go head to head, creating new Dragonball Statues. Voting is conducted in Japan and the winner is crowned King of the Tenkaichi. The fearsome Namekian Dragon Porunga has something of a signature pose to him, so sculptor CCP decided not to rock the boat with his Figure Colosseum 4 entry. What CCP did instead was create a figure with details and a color palette that match the anime to a T. Look closely and you can see where Porunga’s skin wrinkles around his neck and muscles, the bumps of his scales, and even the texture of his horns! This is the kind of figure that encourages you to take in all of the carefully-crafted details.

Vol.04 • Pan

The Scultures BIG Series are the resulting products from Banpresto’s Figure Colosseum Budokai Tenkaichi Contest. In the contest, Japans best sculptors go head to head, creating new Dragonball Statues. Voting is conducted in Japan and the winner is crowned King of the Tenkaichi. We’ve seen figures that have been based off of manga panels in the Figure Colosseum, but never one based on an anime plot point! This figure of Pan, called “In the Air” is a nod to episode 11 of Dragon Ball GT, in which Pan is turned into a doll of roughly this size. However, her size her is certainly no measure of her power! As cute as this figure looks, you can see the effort behind that kick in her hair, moving backpack, and airborne belt chain! Sculptor Keisuke Sawada gave this figure depth and dynamism from every angle. And if the aformentioned details weren’t impressive enough, be sure to note the different colors used for the lining of Pan’s clothes. To ensure accuracy, Sawada based this FC4 finalist off of an illustration by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, the DBGT character designer, as well as Akira Toriyama’s image boards for Pan.
